DEREK CRYMBLE

Derek Crymble creates lost wax bronze sculptures of racecars from history. Fangio's Mercedes, Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari, Hawthorn's D-Type Jaguar, and the number 5 & 6 pair of Mario Andretti and Nigel Mansell's 1993 Indycar Lola's. Smoke and Mirrors Publishing believes Derek and his sculpting talents are truly one of Canada's national treasures and we are sure once you see his work in person you'll agree. His attention to detail is phenomenal especially in his Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari piece. This is on display in the Gilles Villeneuve museum in Berthierville, Quebec, Canada, for how long we are not sure, but this piece is definately worth checking out. Not to mention any of his other work, including his 32" long and 200 + lb Indy racecars.

Derek has created the Driver and Team race trophies for the Vancouver Molson Indy since 1999, when he also created the first Pole award trophy for the race, which is now named after Greg Moore. The 2001 Toronto Molson Indy also introduced the same pole award trophy, won by Gil De Ferran.

The Greg Moore Gold Classic tournaments in both Toronto and Vancouver have trophies created by Derek as permanent awards for those events.

The 2001 Vancouver Molson Indy trophies are made up of a bronze helmet and gloves, with an aluminium base and maple leaf backplate. The maple leaf carries the event sponsors logos. The helmet is a bronze replica of Greg Moore's helmet. The bronze used for the gloves is a slightly different type of bronze that has a red tinge to it that will deepen with time, and as any Greg Moore fan knows "Red Gloves Rule".

The 2000 and 2001 Vancouver Molson Indy Driver and Team trophies made by Derek, were on display within ARTFEST located in the B.C. Room at the Plaza of Nations, Concord Pacific Place, during the Indy. Look for more of Derek's work to be Exhibited with Smoke and Mirrors mobile Exhibits in the future.
